Camarasaurus Vertebra - Morrison Formation
This is an authentic Camarasaurus vertebra from the renowned Morrison Formation.
Camarasaurus was one of the most iconic and common sauropod dinosaurs of the Late Jurassic, a massive long-necked herbivore that roamed what is now North America around 150 million years ago. This large, robust specimen comes from the vertebral column of Camarasaurus and preserves the solid centrum (the main body of the vertebra), and side processes.
Measuring approximately 14 inches wide, 9.5 inches tall, and 7 inches long, and weighing an impressive 28.3 lbs (12.8 kg), this vertebra delivers serious presence and true museum-quality appeal. Its substantial size and heft highlight the sheer scale and power of these Jurassic giants.
Specimen Highlights:
- Type: Authentic Camarasaurus vertebra (sauropod dinosaur)
- Dimensions: 14 inches wide × 9.5 inches tall × 7 inches long
- Weight: 28.3 lbs (12.8 kg)
- Preservation: Naturally agatized (silicified), resulting in exceptional hardness, a polished-like sheen in places, beautifully detailed bone texture, and subtle natural color variations. Highly resistant and display-ready.
- Condition: The neural arch and neural spine are absent, as is commonly seen in recovered sauropod vertebrae due to natural taphonomic processes. The centrum remains beautifully intact and structurally sound. Only very minor gap-filling was required during preparation. No over-restoration, painting, or artificial enhancements.
- Provenance: Morrison Formation, Late Jurassic (~150 million years ago), sourced directly from a trusted paleontologist.
-
Display: comes with a custom display stand.
Bonus: Includes a custom information card with details about Camarasaurus, geological context, a human size reference to help visualize the massive scale of this Jurassic sauropod, and the time period (~150 million years ago).
This impressive vertebra offers a dramatic and tangible connection to the Age of Dinosaurs — a powerful piece of the anatomy that once formed part of the backbone of one of the largest land animals of the Jurassic period.
Perfect for serious paleontology collections, natural history displays, home museums, or as a stunning and meaningful gift for any dinosaur enthusiast.
