This is a real, 100% authentic upper canine fossil from Machairodus ("dagger tooth"), an early saber-toothed cat genus from the Miocene epoch (~12–8 million years ago). Machairodus was a large ambush predator, similar in size to a modern lion or tiger, that used its elongated canines to hunt prey like early rhinos, horses, and camels across Eurasia, Africa, and parts of North America.
At 6.45 inches (16.4 cm) along the inner curve, this is a notably large example for the genus—indicating a substantial individual—with rooted design, serrated edges (often worn from use), and effective hunting capability.
Specimen Highlights:
Length: 6.45 inches (16.4 cm) along the inner curve – impressive size
Color & Preservation: Natural creamy beige to warm brown tones, good enamel preservation, intact root and serrations
Condition & Repairs: Well-preserved with authentic age-related wear; minor natural cracks or texture common in genuine fossils. Has some professional repairs along the tooth and restoration in the middle section to stabilize structural integrity—this is standard and common for large saber-tooth canines due to their inherent fragility and frequent breakage patterns (all repairs/restoration clearly visible and detailed in multiple close-up photos)
Source: Taiwan
Authenticity Guarantee: Carefully inspected and authenticated by our team.
Bonus: Also includes an information card to display alongside the fossil.
Well-suited for paleontology collections, natural history displays, cabinets of curiosity, educational use, or as a distinctive gift for fossil enthusiasts. Machairodus represents an important early stage in saber-toothed cat evolution, predating more specialized forms like Smilodon. Large, intact canines of this quality are uncommon in the market.
